Sharing my passion, April 2024

Magic happens when you take a yoga teacher with a passion for community wellbeing , an experienced mountain guide, a professional photographer and a group of people with mobile phones into  the woods.

On a spring morning in April I found myself in the beautiful Birks of Aberfeldy with a group of people keen to learn how to take good photos. There was a range of abilities and experiences, and this was my first time teaching. Some people had phones and others digital cameras but all were prepared to capture their stunning surroundings and to learn more about their equipment and what makes a good photo.

I had identified three locations where they could take a variety of shots including a waterfall, gorge and a mix of rocks, trees and river. We discussed how to compose the shot, shutter speed, using the light, the rule of third and what to look for in a frame.

Each person having taken their photos then received personal and constructive feedback on their shots as we crouched under the umbrellas sheltering from the rain but not put off in any way.

I then invited everyone to go and take a picture of Wade’s Bridge an iconic structure in Aberfeldy and meet back at Fernbank for a debrief and more feedback.

Participants reported that they had really enjoyed their day and learned in a really engaging way with one participant asking for additional individual sessions to learn more skills.

I thoroughly enjoyed the teaching and have decided to offer in partnership with Tina a photography and Yoga retreat 20 - 22 September.
